Providing Compassionate Care

Religious Services

"...Collaboration with Elder Care Alliance enriches the quality of life of the Dioceses and offers new options for meeting the needs of the people of God."

~ Rev. Paul Vassar
Vicar General, Diocese of Oakland

Understanding the Needs of Religious & Clergy

According to the 2001 statistics published by the National Religious Retirement Office, United States religious congregations spent more than $170 million for assisted care and skilled nursing care annually. This number is expected to continue to grow rapidly due to the continued aging of members and the increasing cost of accessing heath care services. Dioceses face similar challenges in their efforts to ensure adequate care for retired priests.

Elder Care Alliance supports implementation of more innovative and cost effective long term care models without sacrificing quality and standards of care. Congregations and dioceses can benefit from Elder Care Alliance's expertise in gerontology and long term care models while preserving their own traditions. Elder Care Alliance believes in collaboration and encourages strong partnerships in care. Elder Care Alliance has collaborated with a variety of religious organizations including the Diocese of Oakland; the Archdiocese of San Francisco; the Franciscan Friars, Province of St. Barbara; the Sisters of Notre Dame de Namur, California Province and the Vincentian Fathers and Brothers, Province of the West.

Services Provided Include:

Consultation and Training
Our consultation and training department offers religious congregations and dioceses educational opportunities and access to resources including programs addressing long term care needs, psycho-social, clinical and spiritual aspects of aging, and Alzheimer's disease and related dementia care services.

Long Term Care Planning
Understanding the complex clinical and financial models of quality long term care delivery is a challenge for many organizations. In collaboration with other mission similar organizations, Elder Care Alliance uses a multi-disciplinary approach to address these issues and assist congregations and dioceses in developing strategic plans that identify critical decision making points and in providing recommendations for meeting the current and future needs of members.

Care Coordination
The Elder Care Alliance Care Coordination Program is designed to assist congregations and dioceses in planning for long term care needs for all members. Within the guidelines established by congregational or diocesan leadership, a professional social worker or nurse works with individuals to determine their current physical and cognitive needs, coordinates service delivery, develops a plan for future needs, and acts as an advocate and liaison during healthcare emergencies and transitions to higher levels of care.

Development of Assisted Living and Dementia Special Care Services
Elder Care Alliance has collaborated with a variety of mission similar organizations to develop assisted living and other long term care programs that serve the congregations, dioceses and their members. Elder Care Alliance will develop new programs and/or provide consultation and management of existing programs. For more information regarding services to religious congregations and diocese, contact Sr. Claudia McTaggart at:
